St. Mark Catholic Church/University Parish

St. Mark’s opened in 1965 as the “Newman Center” for  Catholic UCSB students.  Since then it has ministered to thousands of UCSB students through retreats, student Masses, faith sharing groups, and social events.

In addition to serving the students, St. Mark's is the home parish to many Isla Vista and Goleta families, known affectionately as "year-round parishioners."

St. Mark's is an oasis for those who are thirsting for a spiritual, loving, and supportive faith community.
We hope that it will be able to serve the students and the larger community for many years to come.

Our Mission:

We believe that God has called us, gifted us, and sent us to this time and place for our good, the good of this community, and God's glory.

We seek to enrich our spirituality by living a Christian life through mutual encouragement, service, and collaboration.

We pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we follow in the way of Jesus Christ.

We commit ourselves to- welcome each person, through evangelization and reconciliation; celebrate life, diversity and Catholic tradition; build a community of support; share our talents and gifts; and empower people for the future.
